New Years Massive Fire

Tuesday, December 31, 2013 22:43  On December 31, 2013 at 22:43 hrs the Haledon Fire Department was dispatched to 438 Morrissee Ave for a reported fire in the rear of a vacant structure. Upon arrival 508 Asst Bakker reported a heavy fire condition in the rear of the building. 2 minutes later 507 Chief of Department Michael Moscatello arrived and reported a fully involved structure fire with fire communicating to both occupied exposure buildings. Upon arrival of Haledon Engine's 2,3 and Ladder 1 exposure lines were deployed. Searches of the exposure buildings were immediately conducted and were negative. A immediate request was also made for mutual aid from Paterson, Prospect Park, North Haledon, Wayne, and Hawthorne. The first due companies experienced low water pressure and also had live power lines come down on one engine. Interior crews inside 436 Morrissee Ave were ordered to evacuate the building due to heavy fire conditions and collapse was imminent. This was following the collapse of the initial fire building. A aggressive interior attack was made inside 442 Morrissee Ave containing the fire to one side of the structure. Numerous master streams and ladder trucks were put into operation. The fire was brought under control several hours later. The companies operating on scene experienced severe icing conditions including frozen hose lines. Totowa, Little Falls, and Woodland Park was brought in for coverage. Rehab was set up by the Wayne First Aid Squad and St Joseph's Hospital Paramedics Special Operations Unit. Also Teaneck Box 54 responded and provided refreshments. Personnel remained on scene throughout the following day. The fire remains under investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutors Office and the Haledon Fire Prevention Bureau. There were no injuries.
